Welcome to Travel Adventures Curated!
I’m Shane, and I love traveling with my wife Colleen and sharing our adventures along the way.
Now retired, we’re able to travel more often — both locally and internationally — but working life never stopped us from exploring. In recent years we’ve traveled through Ecuador, Australia, Ireland, and cruised the Mexican Riviera. We’ve lived in three different countries and often reflect that we didn’t travel enough while we were there — a regret we’re making up for now.
We live in California, which we plan to explore extensively, alongside discovering more of the United States and the wider world.
I’m a passionate fisherman and will always take the opportunity to cast a line. Some trips are even shaped around my desire to catch a bucket-list fish species. My family likes to remind me that I’m not a particularly successful fisherman — and they’re probably right — but the places fishing takes me and time spent in nature are reward enough.
As we’ve gotten older, adventure has become an even bigger part of our travels. We look for experiences that challenge us without pushing beyond what we can manage physically. Along the way we’ve ziplined, bridge jumped, floated down raging rivers on lashed-together tubes, and gone white-water rafting in Ecuador.
We’re drawn to nature — chasing waterfalls, walking forest trails beneath towering trees, and spending time in wild places. A recent highlight was the Amazon rainforest, where we encountered elusive pink freshwater dolphins, along with sloths, monkeys, vibrant birds, unusual insects, and unforgettable sunsets.
Food often becomes part of the story too. I actively seek out local and unusual dishes — sometimes to Colleen’s horror. Recent culinary adventures include live palm grubs, frog’s legs, bison tenderloin, elk T-bone, and Rocky Mountain oysters.
Travel Adventures Curated is more than a travel blog. It’s a place for:
- Travel stories shaped by real experiences
- Practical, experience-first travel tips
- Reflections on travel, adventure, and the places that leave a mark
This is where our journeys are recorded — honestly, thoughtfully, and without hype.
