A Reset, and What Comes Next
Hello,
I’ve been a little quieter than planned. A short hospital stay and gallbladder surgery forced an unexpected pause — frustrating at the time, but probably a reminder to slow down.
It also coincided with a bigger shift in my life. I’ve retired, moved to Ventura to be closer to family, and I’m learning how to use time differently now that work no longer dictates the calendar. That freedom comes with adjustment — and it’s reshaped how and why I travel.
That pause has led to a reset.
Going forward, the focus is shifting away from the commercial side of travel content and back to what matters most to me: genuine sharing, long-form storytelling, and real experiences.
Instagram will stay as it should be — quick posts, moments on the road, and the occasional live update. Facebook will mirror those updates and longer reflections. But the writing, structure, and substance will live on the blog.
I’m starting with Costa Rica.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be publishing our 21-day Costa Rica journey, one post at a time. Not a highlights reel, not rushed — but the full experience. Wildlife, weather, tough hikes, quiet mornings, good meals, bad weather, and the small details that rarely make it into the guidebooks.
The Costa Rica trip will form the backbone of an eBook, something readers can return to later as a complete journey rather than scattered updates.
The opening itinerary post is being finalized now and will land shortly. I wanted to explain the intent first, rather than link prematurely.
And Costa Rica is only the beginning.
This year brings original material again:
Northern Lights in Alaska, Amazon River fishing in Brazil, Ireland — and possible trips in Europe.
If you’ve followed along before, thank you for sticking around.
If you’re new here, welcome — there’s plenty ahead.
More soon,
Shane
Wishing you and your families a happy holiday season.
